What is the Z Weather plugin?

The Z Weather plugin is simply a way to embed weather data into your article content. It can be as simple as a single data item like a temperature or it could be a fully formatted HTML page with many weather data items and css styles.  You can see an example and more information about this plugin in our support section.

Why should I use plugin?

The Z Weather plugin gives you complete control over the formatting of weather data. You no longer need to be a programmer to customize the output from Z Weather. If you know how to use the Joomla editor, you can add weather data to your articles.

How do I use the plugin?

Can I create my own custom module using the plugin?

Unfortunately, Joomla does not process plugins for the custom HTML module.  However, there are other modules available that display article content from within a module.  The Z Weather plugin should work with these type of modules (list of tested modules coming soon).

Does using the plugin slow down my site?

The plugin shares the same XML cache of weather data that the Z Weather component and module use.  The Z Weather's cron feature can speed up the component, module and plugin by refreshing the XML data in the background.  Enabling page caching in Joomla will cache the output generated by the Z Weather plugin and any other modules and plugins in use, resulting in faster display of web pages even on those pages not utilizing the Z Weather plugin.   Page caching is recommended when using the Z Weather plugin.

So the short answer is yes, it can slow down a site, but with caching enabled and use of the cron job, the slow down can be minimal.
