The calendar view is one of the most powerful features of Zap Calendar; it ties events and categories together in a customizable display.  The amount of options available for customization may be a bit overwelming to the new user; however, this article will try to demystify the meaning of these options and show how they can be used to create the ideal calendar display for your website.

Plugin Name: recaptcha

Availability:

Purpose: Use the recaptcha plugin to verify visitors at your website are real people when adding or suggesting events (standard and pro versions) or when posting comments to events using the comment plugin (pro version).

Configuration:

This plugin uses the captcha web service provided by www.recaptcha.net . You will need to create an account at the site and register your domain name in order to receive the keys needed by the plugin.  Edit the following recaptcha plugin settings from the Plugin Manager screen:

Recaptcha Public and Private Keys: These keys are provided by recaptcha.net.

Theme: Choose the look of the recaptcha plugin when displayed by choosing one of these themes.

Language: Choose the language you wish the recaptcha plugin display to use.

This plugin is intended to verify non logged-in users.  It is not used if the user is already logged in.  To enable or disable the plugin, simply toggle the "Enabled" flag for the plugin in the Plugin Manager. You may also wish to use the Plugin Manager to position the recaptcha plugin to the bottom of the list of plugins, where users expect a captcha display to appear.

This plugin is available starting with release 2.0.9 of ZapCalendar.

Plugin Name: photoheader

Availability:

Purpose: To show a unique photo (or any HTML supported graphic image) for each month on the calendar

Configuration:

After installing and enabling the plugin, modify the following plugin settings in the view:

Photo Month Plugin: set to "On"

Canvas Height, in pixels: The height of the displayable image

Photo Folder, relative to stories folder: The plugin uses this folder to pull images from.  If there are less than 12 images in the folder, it will look at any subfolders. If no more images are found, then the images will be repeated.

Repeat Image: set this to true for small images

Month Browser: (new in version 3) When enabled, this option allows clicking on the image to move to the next or previous months.  Click on the right side of the photo to move to the next month, or click on the left side to move to the previous month.  This feature is similar to photo browsing in Facebook.  You can also click the middle of the photo to move to the current month.

Show Photo when Printing: You can disable the printing of the image if desired.

Plugin Name: catcontrol

Availability: 

Purpose: The Category Controller allows users to dynamically show or hide categories on the calendar.  It can also be used to filter out categories in an iCal subscription or download.

Configuration:

This is the plugin version of the Zap Calendar controller module. The advantage of the plugin version is that it displays directly above the calendar.  Some templates do not provide a module position directly above the content area of the screen, so this plugin can be used in those environments.   You will still need to use the module if you wish to display the controller in any position other than directly above the content area.

Enable this plugin from the calendar's plugin tab.  To configure, specify the number of categories per row in the view's plugin settings.
